Why Is Swine Flu On The Rise In Thailand As It Is Not Cold Or Rainy Season There Now?
As swine flu or Mexican flu is on the rise in Thailand, I had this question. They say flu is most likely to spread in rainy or cold season, but that is not the case in Thailand. Why is it spreading so rapidly now?
Also, is everybody wearing masks there now?

They are not as clean as we are? Have you been here? I doubt it. As for your question the cold or rainy season has nothing to do with a flu. Thailand is a tourist destination and as such people from countries not as clean as Thailand comes here and spread the flu. Also Thailand is releasing the count on the number of people effected by the flu while other countries not as clean as Thailand are not.
I was at the airport last weekend and airport employees who have contact with passengers were wearing mask such as the immigration people. Most tourist were not wearing mask. The airport also has a health form all arriving passengers must complete. And you will also go through a thermal scanning machines to detect anyone with a fever before entering the immigrations point.

I live in Pattaya and no one is wearing a mask anymore.
The first couple of days when “the outbreak” was made public maybe one in 500 people did.
Hard to tell because some people are always wearing a mask when driving.
Why do you think it is rapidly spreading?
In my humble opinion these numbers in the media are minuscule compared to the common flu every year.
Do your own research. We have the internet today. On average 36,000 people die of the common flu in the US alone every year.
There are many questions to be answered when you dig a little deeper into this matter.
…and someone saying that Thais are unclean is someone completely ignorant, and that is a polite way of saying it.

Let me add…I don’t say they are dirty people..but we wash our hands etc much more than they do.

All that extra hand washing sure isn’t doing much good in Britain, US, Canada and Mexico right now! Flu spreads during the cold seasons because people are indoors more often with heaters on in closer contact with everyone around them. You see people in Taiwan and Japan wearing masks even during “non flu” seasons. The more tourists that show up in Thailand the more opportunities for the Thai people to get the flu!
Happy trails.

H1N1 is morphing as it spreads. Even WHO says this is a “different” kind of flu since it is not going dorminant in the heat of summer.
